Gold on the ceiling

About 5 weeks ago, I set off for Goa for what was meant to be a 3 week trip, a quick getaway from Europe, a helping hand to my mum setting up a shop, and a break from deciding where to go and what to do.

About 10 days into my trip, I had seen another side of Goa, the side you only see if you live here. I met people who lived here on and off for up to 25 years, I found the quiet spots, I started to have favourites to eat, to play, to meet people…all in all, a place I really used to dislike, well, it was growing on me….

Having seen this side, and starting to fit in so well, I started to wonder what I was going back to Europe for…sure Christmas in Europe is awesome (and I hadn’t lived a wintery christmas in about 5 years or so), sure I have family there who wanted to celebrate with me (and I with them) but really overall, apart from 3 days of family Christmassy celebration, I was left with a cold and depressive europe, and no job opportunity apparent.

The choice to extend was pretty much made for me. Here I am in a land of opportunities where the sun is shining every day, the beach is beckoning, people are warm and smiling, I have a rad car so I’m free to move, I have a house and so I belong.

This is how my 3 weeks turned to 4 months. Not too bad after all…I’ve been working through the peak of the season having opened a beach cocktail bar with a friend and helping in the busiest restaurant in town, meeting so many interesting people and even being offered some very exciting opportunities and jobs for when I leave here, so who knows where I’ll end up after all!

There are so many opportunities right here, I’m turning them down every day! I’m still looking for a manager to run a cafe before I set it up, there are hotels and guest houses to be set up and run…sales positions and designer markets…if you have an idea you can make it happen here, its incredible indeed.

For today though, I’m sick, so I will remain on the sofa for a change, sleep it off and hope that tomorrow I’m ready to be up and about again.

In the meantime, check out The Black Keys new album (El Camino), it’s fantastic. One of the best of last year for sure…and if you’re interested in getting involved, send an email my way.

Happy New Year, here’s looking forward to the new year ahead…exciting things are on the way

scale it back

almost 4 months after departing australia by force…I have yet to relocate properly. it seems easy to stop in limbo and reflect. i suppose choosing a new direction and location isn’t that easy after all. especially when being forced to leave the place i chose and loved so very much.

so how to move past this and go forward? travel helped me further define what i’m actually looking for now. i thought i was searching for a funky city that had so much to offer. but i realised that not only there are many cool places, but it’s more about what you find and make of it really.

i found many great places i am sure to return to, either to visit or live in the future. but i most certainly realised that what i’m after is a really inspiring opportunity. with this will bring love for a new place and culture most definitely.

between research and answers i’m sure to find a few options for what comes next.

more to come…

city life

So the Flickr attachment was not quite what I had hoped, those tiny images won’t cut it in my opinion…

Here are some photos from the various cities I’ve visited in the past month…I might add I was also in Berlin which is gorgeous and super photogenic, however the weather was totally crap the entire time so my camera stayed in my bag unfortunately…guess I’ll have to go back!

London, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen & Amsterdam (at night)

Londonicious, a set on Flickr.

With 3 days of solid rain (almost like monsoon) it wasn’t too hard to find the time to finally get the rest of these up…separated by city, so there’s more coming.

Even London looks like those warm days already being missed…not often I could say that.

Also I’m trying to use Flikr to load photos on here as the wordpress process is very slow and makes me want to put a fork through my eye…this doesn’t seem much better so I’m working on it.

que calor en la ciudad

At the end of September I went down to Barcelona to visit a friend before heading off to find a new city to live further north…looking over these photos those hot sunny days seem so far away, having spent the past month in the much colder north…

So here is a little taste of Barcelona, in autumn…or almost. Beautiful.

and everyone knows you’re trouble

I finally got around to posting those photos from August/September…it took a little while, and i have a few hundred more from everywhere since then, so i’d better find the time to get them up as well…my SD card is full so that’ll have to happen very soon.

These are a mix…Normandy, Northern France, Coastal Italy around Genova, Milan, Paris and Marseille

Firstly Coastal Normandy

It may not look like much, but below is a photo of the very best pesto there ever was…at a little restaurant in Arenzano, coastal Italy, near Genova…

A couple of randoms from Genova

having just looked back at my last post with all the london photos from when i first arrived in august, i can hardly believe the difference now!

after about 5 weeks away in france, italy and barcelona i have returned to london for a week…where it’s pretty much winter! it’s more than a world away from what i experienced upon my last visit and though i talked about how much places change with seasons i guess seeing it myself in such a short space of time, i have really realised it more..

also coming from barcelona where it was truly summer (for me anyway) and arriving in the midst of autumn makes the change all that more shocking.

i’m just about finding the time to work on and put up a couple of photos from northern france and italy and i still have hundreds to upload and look through from barcelona…i was enthralled…and snap happy…the weather was stunning, the skies were blue…and the architecture is out of this world! the short time i was there was nowhere near enough so ill have to return…probably when this grey skies and cold weather business gets to be too much for me….at this rate it won’t be too long…

im off to scandinavia in a few days…i hear its colder than here…but then as long as its not always grey i do love autumn.

after an epic gig last night im feeling rather fragile today…time to go get some amazing coffee to make up for it!

london in the summertime

so i finally got around to loading some photos from my first few weeks after australia….these are from london…from a time not too long ago when the sun was shining and the people were smiling…

it always amazes me how much a place changes from summer to winter…london is truly one of those places that is vastly different when the sun is out.

if you visit in the summer (or that lucky few weeks when it actually is summer) it’s almost a magical place, everyone is happy and outside, it almost sparkles….compare it to the drearier months of the year when people rush around with their heads down on their way to wherever it is they’re going…people are somewhat less friendly when it’s cold. winter isn’t welcoming we’ll say…

anyway i’m heading back there in about 10 days or so, i hear there are still warm sunny days…after weeks in france and italy i won’t count on that warmth….i’m kind of looking forward to layering again though…

i’ve been getting comfy back at home for a while, and it’s been so good to do very little but relax and eat loads of amazing food! also i discovered a little of northern france, coastal italy and Milan and spent a few days in Paris….some photos of some of that will be up soon…

i’m off to Barcelona next week then back to london for a bit before heading towards scandinavia…germany…netherlands…and wherever else takes my fancy…i’m shopping for a city!

one thing is for sure, it has to be a great coffee city….i am in serious lack of great coffee…

time for change

United Kingdom

well given that my life has been so full of change lately, i decided it was time to update the look of my blog.

i got sick of the blue to be honest. it was too much. this is super simple, and i’ll probably be sick of it soon, so expect some changes, more colour and more photos too.

after 3 weeks in london i have returned to my home land for some down time. it’s still summer here and that quiet heat along with lots of cheese seems to be exactly what i was after…

ill be setting off for some european travels soon, when i can find it in me to leave the comfort of home….its so beautiful here!

also ill try to put some random photos of london and northern france up soon before i have more from italy and spain!

London mess

after a crazy month in Melbourne, trying to wind everything down whilst catching up with everyone and seeing as much of my beloved city as possible I finally packed my stuff and left….after graduating and celebrating, of course.

arriving in a familiar place in the midst of displacement is surreal…more so when anarchy erupts and tens of thousands of police come out to serve and protect.

the riots in london were an explosion of a deep unhappiness, expressed in a terribly wrong way and all of those identified are now being trialled and jailed. the problem is still there. this isn’t over. oh, and the prisons are all over capacity.

thankfully that feeling is gone. it’s hard to explain. a sort of deep uneasiness in the gut. knowing that something’s wrong somewhere. police on patrol everywhere, and constant sirens all day and night.

a couple weeks here and I’m already antsy….it’s time to go lose myself for a bit, clear my head and decide where I’m going to live. probably here.
